Postpartum Depression Awareness is usually overlooked by many people, it can be difficult to pick up on someone suffering from depression. It is important after the delivery of the baby which is called postnatal care that professionals such as doctors follow up with the families to see how their aftercare is going. It may not be noticeable during the follow up appointment or even your your baby first check up that mom is experiencing any hormonal alterations in their mood and some are not willing to disclose it. According to studies 10-25% of women with postpartum mental health disorders are willing to speak up about what they may be experiencing. Postpartum depression can last up to eighteen months after giving birth. Research proves that if you've experienced mental health illness in the past, more than likely you will experience postpartum depression during pregnancy or during postpartum. Postpartum depression can be short lived but 10-15% of postpartum cases turn into depression. I'm asking our community to stay concerned and interested in the lives of new parents and assist in any way possible to make their birthing recovery and transition into parenthood easier for them. ​
